24 GOOD DEEDS supports the fundraising of charitable organizations with a donation-based Charity Advent Calendar. Donors give $24 or more for the calendar and enable 24 social and ecological projects, which are selected yearly by 24 GOOD DEEDS. The calendar donations are then transferred to the partner organizations which implement the good deeds locally.
All of the 24 Canadian charities describe their good deed in the calendar. Your donation supports the implementation of the good deeds as well as the production of the calendar and the work of our organization.
Along with the 3-step selection process, we verify how the donations are used through the following mechanisms. We sign a contract with each organization which commits to providing a detailed outline about the implementation of the good deed. All participating organization are required to document the implementation process via reports, photos and other supporting documentation. Our own organization is also committed to transparency. Every year we produce an annual report detailing our activities and how funds are used.
In 2010 Sebastian Wehkamp had the idea when he was struck by the realization that people like to donate to a good cause but that donations are often made as a result of a guilty conscience when donors are confronted with pictures that arouse pity rather than understanding how their donations make an actual difference.
Consequently, he set out to make the donation process more fun but which also provides reassurance that donations serve a meaningful purpose. That’s how the idea for 24 GOOD DEEDS came about. With the calendar, you support 24 projects with a single donation and behind each calendar door, you find out what exactly will be achieved with your donation.
